Strengths: Happy with size of unit, battery life and keyboard feel. very happy with display clarity. Ready to go out of the box

Weaknesses:The right side shift button is annoying as stated by others.

Overall Evaluation: Looked at my local vendors and didn't like what I saw as fitting my needs. The cost and size is right, also DID NOT want to got to Vista. EXTREMELY happy with response of PC Nation. Ordered on Aug 28 received on Aug 30 used free shipping option not rush delivery.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: performance, price, portability, loaded for internet, bluetooth connectivity, storage

    Weaknesses:touchpad, Shift keys, thick battery

Overall Evaluation: the new 1000H with 6 cell and XP home is nice overall for those who are accustomed to Intel single core type performance. The very good screen is on par with many laptops since the onset of the hi-res era. The battery in place makes the rear (or frnt for many) of the laptop --right under the flip-out LCD-- bulge down thicker: not very elegant. The veritable annoyance is the R-shift key placement (which requires tweaking w/ sofware to remap R-shft and Up-arrow key), too far to the right, especially for those who type fast and frequently. For big hands, your thumbs might hit some part of the sensitive touchpad while you type, and this triggers relocation on the curser within your typed string (you might want to pay more visual attention to your string). If you are not willing to wait out until Asus fixes this KB issue(s), go ahead bc this is a very good performing machine, albeit not so extra-thin & extra-light. I doubt that the KB issue would enable me to give it more than 4.5 stars. 4 stars realistically or maybe 4 1/2, mostly bc of its price ... but barely. PS: for those interested, download "Elantech" touch pad software 7.0.3.8 to enable disabling of touchpad when typing; and download "Keytweak" software to swap your R-shift and up-arrow keys (then do the physical swap on the KB)

Strengths: Easy to upgrade ram and hard drive, fast and light.

Weaknesses:Right shift key placement, stiff mouse buttons.

Overall Evaluation: I compared all the netbooks available on the market before deciding on this one. Some have SSDs soldered to the mainboard - this has SATA which is behind an easy to access panel on the botom - win. Some have memory which you need to disassemble the netbook to upgrade, and some soldered on - this has easy to access panel on the bottom to swap out memory - win. This one has wireless N and I don't think any other models out there do. It came standard with a 6 cell battery at a reasonable price. So far I'm just trying to get used to the right shift key placement, and I really need to get a bluetooth mouse so I don't have to use those stiff touchpad click buttons. This is a great machine for e-mails, surfing, chatting, and web-based games!

Strengths: size, battery life, XP home installed

    Weaknesses:None

Overall Evaluation: I read every review on this laptop and several competitors before buying this and I know I made the right choice. It is the PERFECT size, small enough to carry everywhere but big enough that the keyboard feels comfortable for extended use. The display is crystal clear, much better than I expected. The battery life seems to average 6 hours, not as advertised, but excellent. I upgraded the ram to 2 gb with a Kingston module, it didn't make much of a difference in performance, but I wanted it maxed out. Upgrades are easy, there is a convenient access door on the bottom of the machine. I highly recommend this laptop, with Newegg, it cost me just 530 bucks with free shipping on one of their daily specials.

Strengths: Good screen size, full functionality, speedy performance

Weaknesses:A little heavy, takes time to get use to use the touchpad, less than 7 hours usage on a full charge

Overall Evaluation: This laptop is the best buy of the year, at least for me. In a couple of months, the price may go even lower. But even for the present price range, this laptop will provide you all the essential elements of a travel notebook. Its size is easy on packing, its functality will get you all the work done (i.e. online surfing, movie watching, composition writing, etc, etc.) The one minor problem I mostly concerned is the display resolution setting; it is either not high enough or too high that needed to scroll up and down. A future patch may correct that.
