Lexmark on Monday introduced a new line of monochrome laser printers compatible with Macs and Windows PCs. Prices range from US$199 to $599 and up depending on features.

The new E Series monochrome laser printers all feature 1200 x 1200 dot per inch (DPI) resolution. Lexmark touts the new laser printers' environmental sensitivity: they're all capable of two-sided printing, include an "instant warm-up" fuser which saves energy when not in use, "eco-mode," which reduces power consumption, and are part of Lexmark's Cartridge Collection recycling program.

The E260d and E260dn feature 35 page per minute (PPM) output and front-loading toner cartridges. They're designed for desktop use and have a compact footprint. They're priced starting at $199.

The E360d and E360dn print at up to 40 ppm. They also feature a 50-sheet multipurpose feeder and can support optional paper drawers to help boost input capacity. They also have expanded memory capabilities, making them faster to process pages with lots of images on them. Prices for the E360 line start at $349.

The E460dn and E460dw can support extra high-yield cartridges, feature built-in networking and can expand paper capacity up to 650 sheets. The printers give you early warning alerts for low toner, can be secured using a 10-digit numeric pad and has an operator panel that can feature customized messages. the E460dw also supports the 802.11n draft 2.0 specification, making it able to operate on fast wireless networks using devices like Apple's newer Airport Extreme Base Station. The E460 line is pried from $599.

Lexmark's Web site had not been updated with information on the new models as Macworld posted this article.
